Fans of the Slime Rancher series get everything they love and more with Slime Rancher 2. Beatrix LaBeau now has the entirety of Rainbow Island to explore. Players will find new and unique slimes, plant life, and minerals to collect for all their ranching wants and needs.

Each area in Slime Rancher 2 has specific resources meaning that certain minerals are more challenging to locate than others. For example, Primordy Oil is a rare resource due to its dangerous location and random spawning. Still, players can find plenty of it if they explore the island thoroughly.

How to Mine Primordy Oil

Slime Rancher 2 Primordy Oil Fountain

Primordy Oil is just one of the resources found on Rainbow Island. It comes from deposits buried that spout fountains above ground. These fountains are black with purple hues. Primordy Oil is used in fabricating different equipment or machines that players can use to make life on the island a little easier. To unlock these tools, they'll need to find blueprints spread around the island. However, before they can mine the oil, players will need the Resource Harvester.

The Resource Harvester

Slime Rancher 2 Resource Harvester

The Resource Harvester is an upgrade for the Vacpack. Players can complete upgrades in The Lab by using the Fabricator and Refinery. The required materials are under the Upgrade name on the Fabricator and players will need to insert these materials into the Refinery. The Resource Harvester needs the following:

  • 450 Newbucks
  • 10 Cotton Plorts

Both materials are relatively easy to obtain. Cotton slimes hang out in Rainbow Fields near the Conservatory; their rabbit ears can identify them. These slimes eat veggies, so ranchers should feed them a few carrots to start getting Cotton plorts. Since plorts can be exchanged for Newbucks, they should plan to collect more than needed and sell the extra ones at the Plort Market.

Where is Primordy Oil

Slime Rancher 2 Ember Valley

To find Primordy Oil, players must venture out further than Rainbow Fields to Ember Valley. On the map, it is west of the Conservatory, but players will not be able to travel directly to it on foot.

First, they'll have to find the Pink Gordo slime in Rainbow Fields to get to Ember Valley. Gordo slimes are sedentary oversized slimes. The Pink Gordo slime is sitting on the northwestern side of the island. Pink slimes are the least picky eaters, so players can feed this Gordo any food. Whenever it is full, it will explode and reveal a geyser. Ranchers can then ride the geyser up the cliff and follow the path to a device that opens a portal to Ember Valley.

Ember Valley is a desert area known for its tall mountains, crystal caves, and fiery landscape. Primordy Oil is near the volcano or deep in the caves. The volcano is visible from far away, but the cave will require deeper exploration. Once inside, it leads players to a pond with multiple fountains and Puddle slimes. Alternatively, within the volcano are more fountains. There, players should move cautiously as many slimes in those areas are dangerous and will attack or even explode, depending on their species. The fountains refill daily, so players can return regularly to get more Primordy Oil.

Slime Rancher 2 is available in Early Access on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
