For example, Silky Sand is an island resource used in decorations, machinery, and teleporters. When starting Slime Rancher 2, players begin at the Rainbow Island Conservatory in an area called Rainbow Fields. As they venture out, they will find blueprints for different valuable items that list off natural ingredients found around the island. Some of these ingredients are only found in areas players must unlock by completing specific tasks. Silky Sand falls under this category, so here is its location and how to farm it.

Where Is Silky Sand

Slime Rancher 2 Silky Sand Geyser

While there are some resources in Rainbow Fields, like Deep Brine, Silky Sand is nowhere to be found on that part of the island. Instead, it is found mainly in an area called Starlight Strand. Starlight Strand is a coastal area with the sea splitting it in half. Each side's different colors further this division - one is red and the other blue. Players cannot travel by foot to Starlight Strand and have to open a portal to get there.

The portal only appears after dealing with the Cotton Gordo slime, a giant, stationary version of the species. Gordo slimes typically block something noteworthy with their bulk, so ranchers will have to feed it any Veggies they can find to make it explode. The entrance to a small cave is revealed after it explodes with the portal activation switch inside. Traveling to Starlight Strand is quick work after activating the portal. Silky Sand appears as brown geysers throughout the island, but the Vackpack needs a significant upgrade before ranchers can pick up the sand.

How To Farm Silky Sand

Slime Rancher 2 The Lab

The Vacpack is ranchers' primary tool that they will use for almost all their farming needs. It can vacuum Fruits, Veggies, Meat, and even natural resources after a simple upgrade called the Resource Harvester. Inside the Conservatory is a helpful lab area where resources are stored and machines are fabricated. The Fabricator is the database for all the blueprints found on the island, including the Resource Harvester. Players need the following items to build the upgrade:

  • 450 Newbucks
  • 10 Cotton plorts

Newbucks are Rainbow Island's currency and are earned by selling plorts at the Plort Market. Plorts are deposited by slimes when fed, so collecting both can happen in one easy trip around Rainbow Fields. After gathering all the required materials, ranchers will need to return to the Lab and shoot the Cotton plorts into the Refinery, a spherical storage bin connected directly to the Fabricator. Then move to the Fabricator and activate the upgrade to suck up as much Silky Sand as needed.

Slime Rancher 2 is available in Early Access on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
