Sledgehammer is soliciting candidates for quite an array of positions, including Senior Level Designer, Gameplay Engineer, Engineering Project Manager, and Senior Online Engineer. The description for each job notes that Sledgehammer is, “actively recruiting top talent for our Call of Duty First Person Shooter development team. If you have a desire to work on the most successful FPS franchise in the history of video games, apply online.”
So, it’ll be a first person shooter.
Those with long memories will recall Activision’s statement that Sledgehammer was brought on-board to “extend the [Call of Duty] franchise into the action-adventure genre.” Studio heads Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey seem well suited to such a task, having created Dead Space while at EA’s Visceral Games.
Still, crafting a first person, military-themed, action/adventure installment of the most successful FPS franchise is history does seem like a potentially perilous project, particularly given the extreme amount of controversy surrounding Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward.
Ranters, is this a game you would be interested in playing? And do you think the team at Sledgehammer Games is up to the challenge?
