Sledgehammer Games is one of the three main studios that contribute to the Call of Duty series. Now, Sledgehammer Games is growing by opening up its third studio.

The studio worked on series entries Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and, most recently, Call of Duty: WW2. It also has been confirmed that Sledgehammer Games will be developing the Call of Duty title slated to release this year. Rumors have circulated that it will be a follow-up to Call of Duty: WW2 titled Call of Duty: WW2 Vanguard, but nothing specific about the title has been revealed as of yet.

Sledgehammer Games announced today that it is opening up a third studio in Toronto, Canada. The studio will join the team's current studios located in Foster City, California, and Melbourne, Australia. The announcement came via the studio's official Twitter account but expectedly did not provide any details on what exactly the new studio would be working on. The studio will join the already sizable team of studios that publisher Activision has working on the Call of Duty franchise to maintain the series' annual launches, battle royale component, and mobile title. The newly announced studio also comes with a variety of job postings, covering just about every aspect of game development.

While little is known about this year's Call of Duty title, Sledgehammer Games has a challenging launch ahead of them. It has already been confirmed that the title will integrate with the series' popular battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone. Last year's title, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, did as well and had long-running issues with the integration, so it will be challenging for Sledgehammer Games to ensure that their title's arrival runs a bit smoother. Hopefully, having the third studio to help finish and support the game will lead to a smoother launch experience for players.

Call of Duty titles have also consistently grown in scale over the past few years, so growing the team accordingly makes sense. With the title confirmed to have a full campaign, multiplayer, and a co-op mode on top of being integrated with Call of Duty: Warzone, it is an undoubtedly massive title with a lot of moving parts. With Activision confirming that the game is on track for a release this fall, fans should not have long to wait until a more formal announcement with some concrete information is available. It will be interesting to see which of the various rumors and leaks about Call of Duty 2021 end up being true and false, so hopefully, fans won't have much longer to wait.

Call of Duty 2021 is in development for release sometime this fall.
