Mods can be some of the best parts of any video game, and a very popular mod for Super Smash Bros. Brawl is Project M. Those who already have the fan-created patch will know how much it changes (and debatably fixes) the gameplay featured in Brawl. The latest version of the mod, Project M Demo 2.1, is now available, and with it comes character move set tweaks, a handful of glitch fixes, and a new level based on Skyloft from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

The new stage takes place on a re-skinned portion of the Hyrule Temple stage that made its debut in Super Smash Bros. Melee, but the modders have altered it almost beyond recognition. The stage floats around the entire Skyloft starting area from Skyward Sword, and it genuinely looks like Project Sora released an extra stage for the fighting game. Loftwings will fly through the air in the background of the battlefield, and the entire stage is wonderfully pieced together by the people behind Project M.

Applying the update is extremely easy, and doesn’t even require a hacked Wii. All gamers have to do is download the Project M program onto an SD card, put it in their Wii, load up Brawl, and access the content that applies itself via the stage builder. It’s a pretty simple process for hardcore Smash fans that are growing impatient as they wait for the Wii U and 3DS versions of the series, and the rewards make it well worth the effort.

Project M promises even more updates as its makers continue to modify the game. Those who were saddened at the lack of a Skyward Sword stage can now rest easy until a legitimate one is likely introduced in the upcoming iterations. For now, however, gamers should be more than satisfied with this stage addition. Now, if only there were a Skyward Sword skin for Link…
