A popular mod from years ago is back and ready to download for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Fans of Bethesda's fantasy RPG Skyrim can enjoy an extensive amount of new content in the updated release of Wyrmstooth.

Most will have heard of the fifth entry in the Elder Scrolls series. With an original release back in 2011, Skyrim has had releases from Nintendo Switch to PlayStation 4 and a variety of other bizarre platforms over the years. Part of the appeal is the flexibility in creating a unique character and explore a massive world filled with quests and secrets. The return of Wyrmstooth provides fans with a host of additions to engage with.

The mod's creator, Jonx0r, has released a trailer showcasing everything packed into the mod. Wyrmstooth is an island that is far north of Solitude, and requires players to cross the Sea of Ghosts to access. The main story of the expansion involves a beating a legendary dragon, and is fully voice acted. Players will team up with a group of mercenaries to take out the creature, but not before exploring the mod's massive dungeon. Starting the mission is as simple as accepting the quest from an Imperial Courier, and following the steps to reach the island.

The mod also includes a series of side quests that should keep users playing. One involves purchasing an old Imperial Ruin, which can be turned into a base for the Dragonborn. Similar to the base system in Fallout 4, players can hire staff and defend the fortress from attackers. Extra mechanics like an animal companion and more Shout locations to find are also awaiting players in Wyrmstooth. With sprawling lands and unique towns to explore, the mod offers plenty to do.

The original mod was removed in 2016, but now that it is back, players who have exhausted everything there is to do in Skyrim can hop back in for some more Nordic-themed action. The mod has some original ideas too, from controlling a Draugr to unlisted quest chains, so Wyrmstooth will likely continue to excite players.

Of course, some may see the release as a little late all things considered. Despite the successful simplicity of Skyrim, the gaming industry has largely moved on. There are open-world games with more advanced qualities than this mod could offer. Even Bethesda has released newer games since Skyrim, and a sixth game in the franchise is in development. However, for fans still exploring the fifth Elder Scrolls game, this Wyrmstooth mod can provide even more to do.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
