Perhaps the best thing about Skyrim is how well supported it has been by the modding community. The game regularly sees DLC-sized additions thanks to the hard work of modders, something not many other games benefit from. Now, a new Witcher 3-inspired mod is adding a Solstheim-sized new land to the game.

Dubbed Land of Vominheim, the mod is available for both the original Skyrim and Skyrim Special Edition. According to the mod's creator, VenjHammet, the new land is roughly the size of Solstheim, the island added in Skyrim's final DLC, Dragonborn. Vominheim consists of five islands in an archipelago and is inspired by The Witcher 3's Skellige. There are no actual questlines in the archipelago, though VenjHammet does promise plenty to explore, along with some quest notes, treasure hunts, and journals to help with world-building. Not to mention, some powerful enemies to battle.

"I started this island when the temple of Vuldur was created and it slowly became [so] big that eventually, I decided to expand the land and put more locations," VenjHammet wrote in the mod's description, "You can expect dungeons and caves to be highly detailed and immersive."

Mod support for Skyrim has been stellar since the game released in 2011. There are currently several major projects in development for the game, including Skyblivion, the mod looking to recreate Oblivion in Skyrim's engine. While Land of Vominheim doesn't share quite that amount of content, screenshots of the new land do look fairly detailed. It would certainly make a great building block should VenjHammet ever decide to add more of a narrative to it.

The mod may not be the best for those looking for a major new story to rip through, though it should offer players a decent amount to explore. There are games with bigger worlds than Skyrimthough, with the help of mods, Skyrim has a definite edge over some of the other popular options out there.

There are tons of mods for Skyrim out there that range from minor tweaks to adding Skyrim Granda Shirley Curry to the game. For those with some time to mess around and a hunger to return to the world of The Elder Scrolls, it's definitely worth exploring what's out there.

Skyrim is available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Switch.
