Skyrim, one of the best-rated games ever made, has delivered phenomenal content to players since the moment it was released. After it was launched, the game enjoyed a few incredible DLC additions, including Hearthfire. Hearthfire allowed players to build their own homes in Skyrim, and required players to get their hands on many materials, including straw.

Finding straw in Skyrim can be annoying and expensive, which is frustrating considering its importance. However, there are a few surefire places where players can find the building materials they need to create their perfect estates. Indeed, while it might take some time to get all the required items, Skyrim fans are certainly dedicated enough to acquire anything they need.

How to Get Straw in Skyrim

Skyrim Hearthfire Reviews

The Hearthfire addition to Skyrim gave players more freedom of choice. While not as exciting as Dawnguard, it is still a fantastic piece of content, especially because many players don't want to live in any of Skyrim's expansive cities. When it comes to getting the items needed to build homes, especially straw, there are a few places where players can go to find them. One shop is the iconic Riverwood Trader. Another is Grey Pine Goods in Falkreath. Players can find shops in almost every major settlement that allow them to purchase straw, including:

  • Arnleif and Sons Trading Company - Markarth
  • The Pawned Prawn - Riften
  • Belethor's General Goods - Whiterun
  • Bits and Pieces - Solitude
  • Birna's Oddments - Winterhold
  • Sadri's Used Wares - Windhelm

These shops, though, as typical of Skryim, will not sell straw and other items for a little while after their inventory has been depleted. From Riverwood to the College of Winterhold, it might be necessary for players to scour the map for all the straw they can possibly find in one swoop. In truth, Skyrim is a game that requires players to work for everything they have, and the Hearthfire DLC is no different.

Finding straw, stone, and other materials that are needed to build homes is not overly complicated, but it can be tedious. Acquiring such materials, though, is definitely worth it. Players are then able to hire some of Skyrim's best NPC's as Stewards, adopt children, and house/create all the personal possessions they could possibly desire.

Skyrim is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
