Elder Scrolls V Skyrim Time Lapse

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a gorgeous piece of work, there’s no denying that, but with so much to do in the game, few pause to take in and appreciate the intricacies and painstaking detail the designers put into it -- plus, it's hard to focus with all the dragons attacking every five seconds. Thanks to one special fan who stopped to smell the roses, players can see some of the best sights in Skyrim all in one video.

YouTube user deepcameo cranked the Skyrim PC settings to Ultra High and created time-lapse clips of some of the most picturesque locations in the fictional world. Along this virtual tour you will take repose by the stunning Sleeping Tree Camp, be magically whisked away to the famous Shrine of Azura, or simply take a stroll through the many sprawling forests, quaint farms and grandiose mist covered mountains of Skyrim.

Not sure what to see first? Download this map of the region and be sure to listen to our adventuring tips and start planning your sightseeing excursion today. (Eat your heart out, Skyrim tourism board.)

Those who haven’t even touched Skyrim yet may finally be coaxed to pop in this Game of the Year contender because of these pleasant images. Those who still need some convincing can check out our review (spoiler: it’s a really good game).

Keep in mind, this video contains only outside portions of the game. There are more dungeons, crypts and caves to explore than you can shake a Daedric war axe at. Each are just as detailed, though not as time-lapse capable since, you know, they’re indoors. Skyrim is one big game and deserves a tribute such as this that highlights its very impressive environments. YouTuber deepcameo also deserves a salute for the work they put in, which I imagine took a while. It is a beautiful video that provides ample evidence as to why games should indeed be considered art.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is available now on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
