To say that Skyrim is filled to the brim with secrets would be an understatement, as players are still discovering new things about the game almost ten years after its initial release. One such discovery was recently brought to light, and although this has been documented in the past, it is getting a lot of attention from fans that never experienced it. This strange occurrence has to do with the way that certain Falmer spawn in a specific dungeon, and there's really no way to know for certain whether it is an intended feature or a bug.

The Falmer were once a fair race of snow elves, but years of servitude under the iron fist of the Dwemer twisted their minds and bodies. While exploring dwarven ruins and dank underground caves, players are sure to run across a few Falmer, but most Skyrim players have probably never seen one this small.

While exploring the ruins underneath Markarth (officially referred to as Nchuand-Zel), players will predictably fight a lot of Falmer. Throughout the dungeon, though, there are a few Falmer that don't seem to look normal. This is because they are actually smaller versions of the Falmer. If this is an intentional feature, this could be Bethesda's way of implying that these are Falmer children, alternatively it could just be a glitch or bug that causes these enemies to spawn smaller than normal for some reason.

While it may be tempting to assume that this is an intentional feature from Bethesda, there are a few important pieces of context that will help make a more educated guess. For starters, these smaller Falmer function identically to their standard counterparts, dealing just as much damage and having the same hit points. If the size variation were intentional, it is likely they would have different stats. Another idea that could disprove this theory is the fact that this appears to be the only dungeon they can be found in.

Strange things such as this are popping up all the time in Skyrim, and even though most players have beaten the game forwards and backwards by now, there are still plenty of potential mysteries to uncover in this northern region of Tamriel. Skyrim players recently found an unexplored area of the game, and there are still likely many more places like this for players to seek out even after almost ten years since the game first released in 2011.

Skyrim is available now on PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
