There are some Skyrim mod projects that are vastly more ambitious than most of the standard fare. Projects like Beyond Skyrim aim to recreate entire other continents in the Skyrim engine, while mods like Apocalypse or Ordinator fundamentally alter the way the game is played. No final release of a mod is more anticipated than Skyrim Together.
Since its original release, innumerable players have wondered what it would be like to play Skyrim with their friends – Skyrim Together makes that possible. The first version of the mod, called Old Skyrim Together, is downloadable through a unique launcher.
Updated April 26, 2022 by Erik Petrovich: Skyrim Together is a unique mod, not just amongst the Skyrim modding community but in the modding scene at large. Very rarely do mods come along that add multiplayer functionality to a purely single-player game, and Skyrim Together is one of the more well-known ones. There have been lots of updates to the mod and the development team itself in the last few years, and though the final rewritten release of the mod (called Skyrim Together: Reborn) isn't out yet, the original version can be played. Players can expect to run into lots of bugs with this original version, but when it works, there's nothing quite like exploring the frozen northern province with other players.
How To Download Skyrim Together
While the stabilized version of Skyrim Together isn't available yet, the original mod can still be used. You won't find the files on just about any major Skyrim mod source, though, instead you have to install the Harbor launcher alongside the mod, both available on Github.
You don't have to create an account to use the Harbor launcher, and the original version of the Skyrim Together download is available through its interface. Make sure both players install this launcher and use the same version of Skyrim compatible with the mod, and keep in mind that this publicly-available version of the Skyrim Together mod is very prone to bugs.
How To Install Skyrim Together
Skyrim Together can only be installed through the Harbor launcher, which itself can be downloaded from the mod creator's Github page. Skyrim Together is managed and installed through this launcher, including the ability to link private servers (try Hamachi if you don't already have a private server set up). Simply launch the Harbor launcher, then download and install the mod through its interface (it should be labeled either Skyrim Together or Tilted Online). Remember to install Skyrim before attempting to launch the game through the Harbor launcher.
From then on, as long as you launch the game through Harbor and have a private server linked to the launcher, you can press the right Ctrl button on your keyboard to bring up the mod's in-game interface and invite friends to play alongside you, provided it doesn't immediately run into bugs.
