Part of what makes The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim such an engaging experience for so many players is the sheer variance in how the game can be approached. From melee weapons, to magic abilities, to archery, Skyrim players have a large amount of options and resources at their disposal. However, one aspect of Skyrim that tends to go overlooked in some regards is the alchemy system.

Alchemy allows players to craft potions within the game, and while there are a cacophony of excellent potion recipes in Skyrim for users to utilize, the ingredients can be quite unsightly at times. Given how many disgusting potion ingredients that can be found within Skyrim, players have taken to discussing which potion ingredients or edible items are the nastiest visually.

This discussion initially began when a Reddit user named RickMcFlick posed the question on r/skyrim, citing that their personal choice was mammoth cheese. Fans then began listing off their least favorite edible items, such troll as fat, the giant's toe, Chaurus eggs, sabre cat eyeballs, and many others. This exchange of views among Skyrim fans just goes to show how much variety there is in terms of edible items and how revolting some of them can be.

The fact that discourse like this exists among fans online showcases how much Skyrim has influenced its player base as a whole. Given how much content is available within Skyrim and how memorable it is for a lot of fans, it allows for interesting discussions like this to flourish. For instance, another similar discussion broke out regarding which city in Skyrim was the worst.

In any case, it's amazing just how much longevity Skyrim has had since its initial release. Very few other games can claim to be as relevant within the gaming community for as long as Skyrim has. The success of the recent release of Skyrim Anniversary Edition shows just how much largescale demand there still is for the game.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for The Elder Scrolls series going forward. It's been quite a long time since The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced, but there's since been little to no update regarding the game's development. In fairness, Bethesda has had quite a few ongoing projects in that time, such as the aforementioned Skyrim Anniversary Edition and the upcoming release of Starfield. With any luck, new information for The Elder Scrolls 6 will release soon. When the game finally does come, it will be interesting to see how gross its edible items end up being.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
