A Skyrim modder has released a mod that completely overhauls the bandit fights in Bethesda's classic RPGs. Bandits are one of the most commonly-found enemies in Skyrim, and this mod freshens up the experience for players.

A huge part of the enduring popularity of Skyrim remains its dedicated modding community. There's barely an inch of Skyrim that hasn't been changed or added to by the community to the point where players can turn the game into something completely new. There are even mod lists that turn Skyrim into Dark Souls. That sort of thing won't be for everyone, but that's why modding is so great - at this point, Skyrim can be whatever players want it to be. While mods are available for many games on PC, there's no community that is as dedicated as Skyrim's, even 11 years after release.

The mod, titled "Lawless - A Bandit Overhaul," was released onto Nexus Mods by user Ooreeoo. It works as a complete overhaul to bandit gameplay, adding 13 new bandit types inspired by past Elder Scrolls games. These new bandits all have their own unique strengths and weaknesses that will change how players approach bandit fights. As well as this, it also overhauls the existing bandit types, allowing their levels to scale with the player beyond what is currently possible. This scaling is reflected in adjustments to bandit loot, which also improves as the player levels up. This makes Skyrim's end-game much more exciting to play.

With Skyrim's bandits being such a core element of the gameplay loop, it makes sense that they'd be a prime target for overhauls as the game gets older. Another Skyrim mod adds 500 new lines of bandit dialogue. Players could potentially use these mods together to create a completely new bandit experience, and there are plenty more mods out there that could be added alongside this. As long as Skyrim's modding community remains active, there will always be new bandit mods for gamers to try out.

While gamers continue to wait patiently for any news about The Elder Scrolls 6, it's safe to assume that bandits will play some part in the upcoming sequel. Until anything official is confirmed, speculation will run rampant about the game, with every gamer having ideas for what Elder Scrolls 6 should include from past games. Hopefully, Bethesda is able to provide more official information when development on Starfield concludes this year.

Skyrim is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
