As the years go by, the cracks begin to show in Skyrim as it fast approaches its 12th anniversary, but luckily the modding community keeps the fantasy RPG in good shape, such as a recent mod which improves interactions with NPCs. Famous for being a game with near-endless replayability, The Elder Scrolls 5 continues to dominate the AAA landscape, despite its flaws. Combined with combat, its lore and role-playing aspects make it an immersive experience.

On top of that, Skyrim has a host of characters for the Dragonborn to interact with, and each person that inhabits the province has their own backstory. For many, having all these NPCs in the game can really breathe a lot of life into Bethesda's world, though over the course of 11 years, fans will have seen the same things over and over again. But there are a few ways for players to inject a little more immersion into TES5.

Recently, Nexus Mods user JaySerpa uploaded "Remote Interactions," a mod for Skyrim that goes above and beyond when it comes to NPC interaction. For starters, the Dragonborn can now call people over to them, rather than having to approach someone directly. This includes being able to call out a specific name, which is handy when a citizen can't be found immediately. A video uploaded by the creator shows the player waving their arms and pointing at people in order to get their attention. The mod also makes it possible to taunt bandits to make them come to the player, and the Dragonborn can also surrender to guards, even if they are attacking.

JaySerpa is no stranger when it comes to modding The Elder Scrolls 5. A recent one by them gives players the option to trip out on Skooma in Skyrim, the substance being the game's equivalent of a narcotic. It's things like this that help to keep Bethesda's epic 2011 RPG in the gaming limelight. After so many years, people are noticing that Skyrim is showing its age, even though it's still regarded by many as a gorgeous-looking game.

It may be one of the most immersive open-world titles around, but it can stand to be a bit more alluring. As such, modders have been keeping busy with custom content that seeks to improve on the vanilla experience. Many PC users know the value of installing as many mods as their system can support, effectively turning Skyrim into a different beast altogether.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Anniversary Edition is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
