Skyrim has been out for so long now, that it's almost become a joke. While there's hopefully some news about The Elder Scrolls 6 on the horizon, the fact that Bethesda keeps re-releasing the fifth installment in the series has been cause for ridicule by the fan base. Still, after ten years, the 2011 epic RPG is still going strong, and there are plenty of modders out there who are keeping things entertaining, with some ideas being implemented that go towards increasing the overall immersion.

Take "Immersive Rejections" as an example. Created by JaySpera, this Skyrim mod does pretty much what it says on the tin. Given that, within the world of Elder Scrolls 5, it's possible for players to get married and live the homestead life, the modder decided that such an interaction needed more realism. Up until this point, marriage proposals were only really met with a "yes" response, but this add-on changes all that by allowing NPCs to reject the Dragonborn, sometimes with amusing lines in response.

A video uploaded to Nexus Mods shows what some of the rejections look like, with one character simply saying that they aren't drunk enough to accept the player's proposal. Getting married in Skyrim is just one of so many ways for players to get immersed in this latest iteration of Tamriel, but JaySpera felt that more was needed in order to inject more believable dialogue elements. What's great about this mod is it uses voice-over from the vanilla game, which has been spliced to create new lines, so it still sounds natural.

For anyone who's very familiar with the modding community, the name JaySpera may be familiar. Being no stranger to splicing dialogue to create new experiences, some other mods they've created for the game enable NPCs to get mad when they are woken, or add new dialogue to bandits, or make it possible for Skyrim players to peek inside keyholes, making stealth playthroughs more immersive. This latest one will almost certainly be amusing for those who are on a quest for a husband or wife, but want that realistic setback that comes from being rejected.

As one of the best RPGs of all time, Skyrim has become a mainstay in the genre, remaining pretty much fully in the limelight since it launched back in 2011. It remains to be seen whether the long-awaited follow-up will have a similar legacy, but it's safe to say that many fans are starting to get a little tired of waiting.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
