There's a new mod out for Skyrim that will make players feel less special, as it essentially turns NPCs into a Dragonborn, giving them the ability to perform a Shout. Over the years, The Elder Scrolls 5 has had an influence on open-world gaming. With its detailed landscape and deep lore, it's become the poster child for what a celebrated epic RPG can be. Of course, it's not without its flaws, and over the past 11 years or so, people have grown accustomed to the vanilla experience.

That's where the modding community comes into play. Anyone who's played the game, especially on PC, knows that Skyrim has a bevy of custom mods that help keep things fresh. Everything from graphical upgrades to new quests to bug fixes have graced this 2011 slice of Tamriel, and fan-made content is still coming out thick and fast. While a lot of mods are keen to enhance the immersive experience of the game, there are those that have other ideas in mind, and the results can be more perplexing and amusing than a means to improve a playthrough.

Take Nexus Mods user hesmick as an example. As spotted by PCGamesN, this modder has just released the "Everyone is a Dragonborn" mod for Skyrim, and it does exactly what the name implies. According to the download page, every NPC in the game can now use Unrelenting Force, the first Shout the player is given in the early parts of the main quest. A video shows it in action, with the official Dragonborn being accosted by guards in Whiterun. However, whenever a guard speaks, they let out a powerful Shout which knocks the player out, making it difficult to fight back.

For those who haven't played the game, the Dragonborn forms a key part of The Elder Scrolls lore, spanning a number of the franchise's entries. Most fans will be familiar with the one they take control of in Skyrim, in which the game's protagonist is born human but has the blood and spirit of a dragon, or a "Dovah" to use the language of the dragons. Having NPCs be imbued with such lineage is an interesting exercise in how everyone having powers can turn the world into chaos, and it also makes for an interesting mod.

While Skyrim has become a meme over the years, particularly due to the sheer number of glitches that have plagued it since day one, some of which are funny while others are game-breaking and frustrating, it's still a critically acclaimed release in the fantasy RPG genre. With Bethesda now working on The Elder Scrolls 6, fans have something new to look forward to, even if nobody really knows when it will release or even what stage of development it's at.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available now on PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
