After more than 11 years, many would assume that the modding community would be out of ideas when it comes to Skyrim content, but a recent mod that allows the player to become a giant frog shows this isn't the case. Custom mods are an important part of the gaming world, especially on PC, as it allows fans to either improve or drastically alter the vanilla experience. It's partly the reason why The Elder Scrolls 5 continues to reign in the AAA industry.

Even without mods, Skyrim offers a lot of ways to play that can keep players engaged for hours. Whether it's choosing a different role-playing trope with each new playthrough, engaging in challenges such as speedrunning, or modding the game to create a different beast all together, there seems to be no end to the possibilities when it comes to Bethesda's epic RPG.

An example of how Skyrim enjoys such longevity comes from Nexus Mods user WhyHello128, who recently uploaded a mod for TES5 that essentially turns the Dragonborn into a giant frog. Simply called "Playable Frog Giant," this particular mod is based off another project from user m150 called "FrogGiant." While the latter adds the titan amphibian creature to the game as an enemy, the former makes it a playable race. There are a couple of additional modifications players will need to make it work, and WhyHello128 says that the mod can only be used in third-person mode, but for anyone who wants to become an enormous frog, this could be the answer.

Vanilla Skyrim already has some pretty tall enemies, whether it's the Dwarven Centurion, the otherwise peaceful Giants that attack if provoked, or even the dragons themselves, so making the Dragonborn statuesque doesn't seem much of a stretch. It also shows just how creative the modding community can be, as there are still so many ways to switch up the base experience.

Given the sheer number of ways that players can interact with TES5, modded or otherwise, it's hardly surprising that Skyrim is one of the highest-grossing games in recent history. True, it may have aged over the years, but it's still drawing newcomers in after all this time. Whether this popularity will wane once The Elder Scrolls 6 releases cannot be said at this stage, but it looks like fans won't be playing the next installment in the series for a good while anyway.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Anniversary Edition is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
