Skyrim has an incredible legacy nine years after its initial release. The vast open-world, countless side quests, and varied abilities have made Skyrim one of the most acclaimed titles from Bethesda. The game has been re-released multiple times over the years but players are still adding to the content available through fan-made mods. A new feature has now been added by players and it will please animal lovers.

Skyrim allows players to explore a rich world and for many, it is one of the best RPGs ever made and mods have only added to this reputation. There are plenty of mods for Skyrim which add to the longevity of the experience however the ability to have a feline friend seems to be a welcome addition to the title. The modder behind the addition to the game, Darkfox127, has been working on the addition to the game for a number of years, and while its a simple idea, it is surprisingly nuanced in terms of gameplay mechanics.

Darkfox127 has been working on the "A Cat's Life" mod since 2018 and it adds more than just a companion in the game. Players can feed strays and gain their trust before they become an official pet and when players explore the world with their feline friend they must keep them fed or they will perish. Pets and supplies can be purchased which makes the task of maintaining a companion easier and players can have multiple cats. The maximum amount of cats available to players is five, and this is a fair amount to walk around the world of Skyrim with.  The YouTube video below, by the modder, details how this content adds to Skyrim.

The mod will be available on Legendary and Special Edition versions of  Skyrim from August 1 and many will be interested in the many pet based features that this will introduce. Some of the new items that are set to be included in the mod are collars, food, and beds for feline pets. Time will tell whether this is one of the fan bases favorite Skyrim mods, but early comments suggest that many will welcome another reason to start up the game again with a new companion.

While many would have expected Skyrim to be a big title, it is impressive that fans are still adding to the experience nine years later. For fans of cats, this will be an essential experience and for others, it may be a gentle reminder to revisit the classic.

Skyrim is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
