A new mod for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim gives players access to blood magic. While Skyrim is full of different ways for players to build their characters, some have found that trying to create a pure mage Dragonborn can be a long slog in the game, as a lot of the most powerful spells can only be cast by those who have reached a high level in their school of magic. Moreover, some have criticized Skyrim's magic system as being rather bland, especially compared to past entries in The Elder Scrolls franchise.

Now, a new mod is looking to change that by adding a blood magic school into the game. Modding has brought tons of new content over to Skyrim in the eleven years since the game first launched. While blood magic has been seen in The Elder Scrolls 5 before in some capacity, these abilities were tied to becoming a Vampire or one of Skyrim's Vampire Lords. This means that a mod adding those dark spells proves to be a unique one, even in Skyrim's vast roster of mods.

Fourteen spells are added to Skyrim with Hemomancy: Blood Magic, a new mod by KataPUMB which can be downloaded now from the Skyrim Nexus Mods page. For those that don't want to suck blood but still want to use it in their spellcasting, Hemomancy: Blood Magic might just be the mod, as it gives the Dragonborn a variety of new spells to choose from with some interesting abilities.

All of these custom Skyrim spells will lower the player's health regeneration and the effectiveness of healing potions, but the tradeoff here is that by using blood magic, the Dragonborn will steal the HP of their enemies. The abilities for Hemomancy range all the way from Novice to Master spells, giving the player some interesting and powerful moves, including AoE and single-target attacks.

Some of these Hemomancy spells can even evaporate opponents if they're weak enough. To make a player's spellcasting even more potent, a number of new amulets have been added to Skyrim, and there's also the addition of a new companion in the form of a living gargoyle. Hemomancy: Blood Magic may not have as many spellcasting choices as some other Skyrim mods like Apocalypse: Magic of Skyrim, but it certainly adds some flavorful new options for any player wanting to dip their toes into some truly dark arts.

Of course, Skyrim has plenty of other mods for those who want to change up the way they venture around the coldest region of Tamriel. For anyone averse to the arcane arts, there was recently a new combat overhaul added to Skyrim, which changed the dated systems and brought the 2011 title closer to more modern games like God of War and Elden Ring.

Skyrim Special Edition is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
