The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim offers players a wide variety of weapons and combat styles, allowing gamers to try out all kinds of tactics against its intimidating bosses. However, the popular open-world RPG still rewards expertise with some of the most spectacular scenes in the game. One Skyrim player recently discovered that a perfect crossbow shot can be used to send the Draugr Scourge Lord flying backward like the climactic scene in an action movie.

Reddit user w_actual found the Draugr Scourge Lord in question inside Bleak Falls Barrow, where it soon rose out of the coffin it had been lying in and attacked. W_actual defended themselves with a crossbow, sending their foe stumbling back with each of the first three bolts before the fourth bolt hit just right. This isn't the first time players have made a discovery about Skyrim's undead Draugr, but it may be one of the most entertaining.

In Skyrim, crossbows have excellent stagger potential, which may be why the Draugr Scourge Lord never manages to close into melee range in w_actual's video. However, easily the most impressive part of the clip is the final shot, which abruptly switches into third-person perspective for the sake of showing off w_actual's perfect aim. The result is a brief cutscene that could easily be from a high fantasy version of The Mummy which transforms the Draugr Scourge Lord into a rag doll. It ends with the enemy toppling right back into its coffin.

Crossbows also fire bolts that fly much faster than Skyrim's longbows, making them particularly good at hitting moving targets such as the Draugr Scourge Lord. Additionally, they can help the Dragonborn grind the Archery skill faster than most other bows, though it appears that w_actual is already quite a high level in this video. Draugr Scourge Lords are level 24--not the mightiest enemy the world of Skyrim has to offer, but still a solid foe under most circumstances.

As of writing, it appears that many other Skyrim fans are impressed by w_actual's achievement, and by the resulting video. While clearing Bleak Falls Barrow may not be the hardest quest in the game, w_actual made destroying the Draugr Scourge Lord look easy. Several fans directly compared the final shot to an 80s action movie, while another immediately declared that the Draugr Scourge Lord was named Boromir. A third user made a reference to the Evil Dead franchise, which also involves a lot of shooting the undead.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
