The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is one of the most popular games from the seventh console generation. Many new players probably pick up the game with every re-release, so Skyrim gets a fresh set of fans with each remaster. For example, Bethesda released the Anniversary Edition of Skyrim last year, and the game is now accessible to a new group of customers on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Like other Elder Scrolls games, Skyrim features separate questlines for the Fighters Guild, the Mages Guild, the Dark Brotherhood, and the Thieves Guild. The College of Winterhold functions as the Mages Guild of Skyrim, and players must travel to the city of Winterhold in the far northeast corner of the map to join the faction. While Skyrim is home to some beautiful architectural designs, one player pointed out an interesting flaw in the College of Winterhold.

On Reddit, one user named get-tps stated that there is a design flaw in the structure of the college that breaks immersion. After reaching the main area for the Hall of the Elements, players come across one door on the right and another on the left. The door on the right leads to a single set of stairs to The Arcanaeum on the second floor, a library for Skyrim's College of Winterhold. The door on the left also leads to a single set of stairs, but players suddenly end up on the college’s third floor. The poster mentions that this oversight issue has been bugging them for years and wonders if others find it annoying.

Other users are also annoyed by this design flaw, with one stating that some form of magic is at play. It's strange that Bethesda overlooked this detail, but it could also be a deliberate design choice. One user mentions that there is an implied second flight of stairs, but this design decision saves time as players only need to walk up and down one set. Get-tps wants Bethesda to duplicate the second set, but another user pointed out that players might then complain about the stairs not matching the room’s height. They think that designing the College of Winterhold like Skyrim's Fort Dawnguard, which is not separated into different cells, could solve the issue.

It’s interesting to see users still arguing about small details in Skyrim over 10 years since its release. It shows Skyrim’s lasting impact, and players will probably continue discussing various aspects of the game even after the release of The Elder Scrolls 6.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
