Two things in Skyrim are steeped in more mystery than just about anything else in the Elder Scrolls series – the Dwemer and mudcrabs. The Dwemer, who many Tamrielic races refer to as the Dwarves, suddenly and mysteriously disappeared all at once across Nirn thousands of years before Skyrim (well, almost all at once, as Yagrum Barnam can be found in Morrowind).

Mudcrabs, on the other hand, seem to exist in almost every province in Tamriel, including Skyrim. In Skyrim Anniversary Edition players have the opportunity to find something that combines the enigmas of both Mudcrabs and the Dwemer in the form of the Dwarven Armored Mudcrab, a new follower with special perks.

What Does The Dwarven Mudcrab Do?

  • Health: 125
  • Skills: Archery, Block, One-Handed, Sneak
  • Max Level: 5 (and labeled as an essential NPC)

The Dwarven Armored Mudcrab is a unique follower. Added to Skyrim Special Edition in 2017 via the Creation Club, it's one of the few paid addons that is almost always on a 100% sale. It's included in Anniversary Edition, along with every other Creation Club element, though it was originally created as an ode to the Horse Armor DLC for Oblivion.

The Dwarven Mudcrab is a max level 5 follower with high health and a variety of friendly faction relations. It is an essential NPC, meaning it can never die (as hard as a player might try), and it's considered a Friendly NPC to Orcs, Bandits, Creatures, Predators, and other animals. The Dwarven Mudcrab can also carry items, making it less of a pet and more of a companion in Skyrim.

Where To Find The Dwarven Mudcrab

The Dwarven Armored Mudcrab can be bought in Markarth from Calcemo, the city's chief Scholar. Look for Calcemo in Understone Keep, where he can typically be found either in his quarters or the Dwemer Ruins that are accessible only in the Keep. Calcemo is a High Elf who wears dark robes, so he sticks out amongst the races of man in Markarth.

When speaking to the Scholar a new option pops up – the option to purchase an Ownership Deed. The deed is not expensive at all, only costing a meager 100 Gold. After it's been purchased, the player is given a Spell Tome that teaches them how to summon the pet to their side. The Dwarven Mudcrab is found sitting by an Enchanting table, where it can be ordered to follow the player at will.

Skyrim Anniversary Edition is available for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S
