Next month, Disney and Marvel will host a games showcase highlighting titles like Marvel's Midnight Suns, as well as many others. This is exciting for fans of the Marvel brand and other Disney-owned IPs, but perhaps the biggest confirmation is that a "sneak peek" at Skydance New Media's Marvel game will be there. This studio, led by Uncharted's Amy Hennig, has been working on a Marvel game, heavily implied to be a narrative game, for some time now.

After this Marvel game was initially announced, simply that of the partnership specifically, many were excited to see which Marvel hero the studio would tackle. There are, of course, many possibilities, and this only built the hype up even more. One of the leading rumors was Daredevil, with some important figures seemingly teasing it and many drawing a connection to Skydance. A narrative Marvel game centered around Daredevil would be many-a-fan's dreams come true, especially as the hero's popularity has soared in recent years, but it seems likely now that this rumor could be false.

Daredevil Doesn't Commonly Mesh with 'Ensembles'

Daredevil

The showcase specifically mentions Skydance's Marvel game as an ensemble, meaning it won't focus on one hero, but at least a team. This doesn't necessarily put Daredevil out of the running, but it does greatly reduce the possibilities of this rumor. Daredevil does appear in some Marvel teams, but none are really going to get the attention a Marvel game deserves. Marvel Knights is possible, but not very likely; Netflix's The Defenders are even more unlikely, since the show didn't really resonate with fans. Daredevil has worked with the Avengers and Spider-Man before, but given Insomniac's approach to the latter and the Avengers being everywhere, it's not likely to be these either.

Indeed, when one thinks of ensembles, the three teams that come to mind are The Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four. The latter two would be perfect picks, since Wolverine is getting a standalone game, not an ensemble one, and the Fantastic Four has a bright future in the MCU. It's possible this Ensemble is something that incorporates multiple teams like a crossover event, and Daredevil could appear then, but this runs a huge gamble.

Namely, if the ensemble is too large, then a narrative game where every character gets equal depth is harder to handle. It could be that it's not a narrative-focused game, seeing Hennig step outside her comfort zone, but that's not the best bet either. After all, games like Guardians of the Galaxy prove how rich the Marvel universe is for good game narratives.

Daredevil may be out, or at the very least, he may not be as in focus as many believed. Fans will find out for sure next month, and we would be glad to be wrong. Daredevil needs a solo game from a solid studio led by someone with a reputation like Hennig's.
