Ubisoft had previously stated, per a financial report, that it intended to release Skull and Bones, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora by March 2023. It seems to be on track for that. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is now the only one on this list to not have an official release date, though rumors suggest it is still coming before the end of the year.

Ubisoft previously showed off some Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope gameplay and a release date, and during a Ubisoft Forward showcase today, it did the same for Skull and Bones. The presentation confirmed the game will release on November 8 for PC, PS5, Stadia, and Xbox Series X/S.

As seen below, Skull and Bones gameplay obviously focuses on naval combat, with game director Ryan Barnard also telling Game Rant that there is no land combat in the game. Players will be able to explore and go on treasure hunts, but combat is at the fore. Players begin as a shipwreck survivor, crafting a dhow to survive and using a spear on it to fight off crocodiles and hippos. This will quickly upgrade to Pirate Hunters, faction ships, forts, and more, as players must use a progression system known as Infamy to become the kingpin of the Indian Ocean.

Barnard also added that there are three categories of ships – Cargo ships, which have better storage; Navigation ships, which are faster and more maneuverable; and Firepower ships, which are better in combat at the expense of the other two categories. In total, there are 12 Skull and Bones ships players can craft of various sizes and designs, with players able to craft up to 40 copies of those ships, per Barnard, in case players lose a ship in Skull and Bones' PvP or elsewhere.

It should be noted that Ubisoft is billing Skull and Bones as a live-service title with a focus on multiplayer, with there being PvP servers for players who want to do battle. However, it can be completed entirely solo. It should be noted that Skull and Bones is not a narrative game with a big overarching story, but for those curious about the pirate world, there will be smaller stories told through the factions and sea-farers players deal with on the Open Sea.

Skull and Bones releases November 8 for PC, PS5, Stadia, and Xbox Series X/S.
