Skull and Bones has been hit with a staggering sixth delay, as Ubisoft has pushed the pirate game's release date back to an undetermined point in the 2023 to 2024 fiscal year. Skull and Bones was first announced at E3 2017, and since then, the game has reportedly undergone significant changes behind-the-scenes while its release date has continually been pushed back to later dates.

It seemed like Skull and Bones would finally meet its release date when the game was announced to be releasing last November, even though it was going to have stiff competition from Sonic Frontiers and God of War Ragnarok. Ubisoft ultimately decided to delay the game again, pushing the Skull and Bones release date to March 9, 2023. However, the company has now confirmed that fans will have to wait to play Skull and Bones until the next fiscal year, meaning it could launch at any point between this coming April and March of 2024. On the bright side, fans at least have a new episode of Skull & Bones' The Deck presentation to watch on January 13.

The Skull and Bones release date delay wasn't the only big announcement Ubisoft made recently. It also confirmed that it has canceled three unannounced games, though it did not share any details about what those projects were going to be like. As one might imagine, this news caught the attention of Ubisoft's investors, and so during an emergency investor call, some assurances were made.

As reported by IGN, Ubisoft told investors that there are still major Ubisoft-published games set to launch next fiscal year, with Assassin's Creed Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Skull and Bones, and unannounced game. Unsurprisingly, Ubisoft did not share any specific details about the unannounced games it has in its pipelines, though it did tease that one of the projects is "large," suggesting it will be one of the company's big budget, AAA releases. It's possible that the game is a new entry in one of Ubisoft's established and popular franchises, though again, no concrete details are available at this time.

Conspicuous by its absence amidst all this was Beyond Good & Evil 2, which had its re-reveal at Ubisoft's E3 2017 press conference. Fans have been waiting even longer to play Beyond Good & Evil 2 than they have been waiting for Skull & Bones, but unfortunately, it looks like the wait will continue indefinitely. The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was also not mentioned, so it seems fans shouldn't hold their breath that they'll get to play that game this year either.

Skull & Bones is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
