Shortly after Dark Star Studios and Another Indie Studio unveiled the announcement trailer for Sinner: Sacrifice Redemption, the pair released the first high-quality screenshots for its upcoming game. Inspired by From Software and Bandai Namco's action-RPG Dark SoulsSinner: Sacrifice Redemption features dark and foreboding imagery and spine-chilling enemies, all shown in the newly revealed images.

The Dark Souls-like Sinner: Sacrifice Redemption centers around a deceased soldier named Adam, who has lost all his memory and is struggling to make sense of his past. In order to uncover the truth behind his forgotten history and to atone for his sins, Adam must face off against eight powerful bosses. Before he faces the incarnations of his worst wrongdoings, Adam must sacrifice his strength and one of his stats, a trade-off that boosts intrigue for and difficulty in the game.

The first screenshot highlights one such boss: a massive black feather-covered, crow-like creature who looms over Adam. Another shows a metal-clad opponent, who appears to be some type of knight, wielding an enormous weapon.

Three additional snaps round out the collection and all focus on Adam. He's first seen standing on a rock platform, adjacent to what can only be described as a lava waterfall, with a sword and shield in hand. Adam makes use of a lightning-infused spear in another screenshot. The final pic shows him standing somberly, his helmet covering his face, in an dimly-lit open area.

Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption is said to feature hordes of enemies carefully crafted based on the protagonist's sins. It will also include challenging but enjoyable combat, additional game modes, and multiple endings, which was also seen in Dark Souls 3.

Another Indie Studio provided a synopsis for the title:

"A man without memories struggles to understand and deal with his past. Adam must face the incarnation of his greatest sins as he unlocks his memories and sacrifices to atone. But will Adam attain redemption or will he wallow in his past? Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption is set in a dark and forbidding realm with a twisted past and deep lore. Inspired by the Souls series, Shadow of the Colossus, and with a dash of anime styling, Sinner promises to be a thrilling and challenging experience."

Though it's a self-proclaimed Dark Souls-inspired game, Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption seems to offer up enough unique qualities to separate itself from the source material. With promises of incredibly tough boss fights, a slew of weapons players can master, and the aforementioned "level-down" gameplay that reduces stats as a player progresses, this forthcoming title could be a hit once it's released next year.

Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption releases in Q1 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
