Unlike many other games with a clear narrative, The Sims 4 players can keep building their own story and creating new and new households. That gives them the space to explore many options but at the same time, boredom can eventually sneak in. That's when various challenges come in that have one main purpose: to make the game fun again.

The Sims 4 itself offers several lot challenges that the players can complete. However, if that wasn't enough, there are some additional challenges created by the players themselves. In both cases, it can be difficult to complete the lot-related challenges but those players who will persevere are in for a unique experience.

8 Creepy Crawlies

Even Sims with a love for nature might find this challenge to be demanding. As its name suggests, if the player chooses this challenge, various bugs will randomly appear on the lot. That will cause the Sim to feel tense or uncomfortable.

What's more, some of the unwelcome visitors can be quite dangerous. This adds a certain level of urgency to the game as the players have to be careful so that their Sims don't get hurt. It also makes The Sims 4 more realistic. This challenge belongs to the DLC Jungle Adventure, and it's no surprise that jungles are unpredictable and often full of dangerous creatures.

7 Off-The-Grid

Sims 4 Off-the-grid challenge

Sims with a strong connection to nature might decide enough is enough, leave a city behind and find a new home on a lot that has no electricity or running water. The only way for the Sims to get these modern advantages is to generate them or collect them.

That makes for a challenging gameplay since a lot of the off-the-grid items don't last as long. The Sims have to be on their guard to make sure their home doesn't collapse on them as a result. But if the player wants their Sims to live a simpler life, in a way, this challenge is how they can achieve it.

6 Simple Living

The Simple Living challenge is a bit similar to Off-the-Grid, even though it focuses on food. The Sims can only cook meals from raw ingredients that they grow or buy.

That makes for some careful planning since, without a sufficient number of ingredients, the Sims will get hungry and eventually die. However, the upside is that the meals created in this way will be of a higher quality than the traditional food in the game.

5 Volcanic Activity

This lot challenge hints heavily at what it does. If chosen, earthquakes will occasionally shake the Sims's homes, and lava rocks and steam vents will erupt. The Sims therefore never quite have a peaceful home and have to be alert to make sure the next earthquake doesn't hurt them or damage their property.

Just like multiple challenges, though, this one also has an upside. Once the lava rocks cool down to an acceptable level, the Sims can examine them and perhaps discover some interesting hidden secrets.

4 The History Challenge

The Sims 4 History challenge

Other than the lot challenges already in the game, the players can try out some challenges related to the lots that other players have come up with. The point of this challenge is to gradually move throughout various historical eras - from the Stone Age to the Modern Day - and play accordingly to it.

That will also influence the lot to a large degree since, in the older eras, the Sims will have only a very limited number of options as to what their home can look like. As a result, it's possible to combine this challenge with the off-the-grid challenge. In both cases, the Sims don't get to use electricity for a long time. The history challenge is difficult to fulfill, especially in the earlier stages, which means only highly patient and inventive players will make it.

3 Three Little Sims

The Three Little Sims challenge requires the player to build three homes in a single lot. Once done, the player switches between them, plays in a home for a day, and then moves on to another one once the night arrives.

The basis of this challenge is to see how the Sims will manage their lives when the player only controls them for a third of their existence. And considering Sims who are left on their own can sometimes cause fires, die, or do other unpleasant things, this challenge isn't for the faint of heart.

2 One Room, One Week, One Theme

While not as difficult as some other challenges, One Room, One Week, One Theme can still be difficult to accomplish since it's an ongoing challenge. Each week, this thread posts a new theme that the players have to use and build a room according to it.

If anybody wants to jump on the train, they can start at any time and compare their creations with the other players. To make this fun and creative challenge a bit more difficult, the players can also attempt to finish all the themes that had been posted before they joined the challenge.

1 Homeless Challenge

The final challenge that can be tough and requires some creative thinking has a name that speaks for itself. In this scenario, the Sim does have a lot but they can't build a house on it. They have to start from scratch and make some money before they can actually start building their own house, brick by brick.

This challenge once again takes a lot of patience so it isn't ideal for everyone. To help the Sim a little, it's best to start playing with them in spring or summer when the weather isn't so bad and the Sim can sleep outside and not freeze.
