The Sims 4's latest expansion, Realm of Magic, is out now for PC players, though console players will have to wait until October 15 to explore this Sims game pack of witchcraft, wizardry, and potions. While the wait may be a shame for Sims enthusiasts on the consoles, it does seem it'll be worthwhile, as this new expansion comes with a ton of new content.
The addition of spellcasters to The Sims 4 works in a vein similar to the vampires. As magic is used, spells are learned, and potion recipes are concocted, players will earn points to level up their magic skill. Making potions require players to hunt for specific ingredients across the new in-game location, Glimmerbrook, and the Magic Realm. The latter is a gorgeous location complete with three floating islands and is accessed by a magic portal found in Glimmerbrook.
This may be one of the busiest areas in the game, as it has everything a brand new spellcaster would need. There's a spot to buy magic materials, a dueling ground, a magic school, and much, much more, but magic also weaves well with the mundane parts of Sims 4. There's a school of magic known as Practical Magic that can fix broken objects, but there are also schools for Mischief Magic, Untamed Magic, and making potions.
Potion-crafting has a high amount of application as well, as it'll make Sims fight, conjure food, turn others into objects, fall in love, remove curses, extend life, and more. This Sims 4 expansion also adds familiars to the game, with players able to take on an ethereal dragon, fairy, or other familiar that serve as a protector.
Finally, like any good Sims Stuff pack, the Sims 4 Realm of Magic expansion adds minor cosmetics to the game befitting of this style, with an over-the-top attire described and magical wands and brooms added to the game. Moreover, there are "enchanting objects" that can also be added to any room in the house.
The Sims 4's Realm of Magic expansion is out now for PC and releases on October 15 for PS4 and Xbox One.
