The Sims 4 is the most recent installment in the influential sandbox series and it provides players with more opportunities to create and control virtual life than ever. This also means that players have a lot of control over the death of their Sims as well, but just because a Sim has died doesn't mean their story is over. One The Sims 4 player recently observed an adorable interaction between the living and the dead.

The Sims franchise has been going for about 20 years, and for much of that time, players have been able to witness and even interact with the ghosts of deceased Sims. After The Sims 2, it also became possible for pets to return from the dead in spectral form.

Redditor winterwhispering shared a screenshot depicting a moment from their The Sims 4 game that manages to be both heartwarming and sad. In the image, a small orange and white corgi puppy runs through the inside of a room beside a much larger dog. Both animals appear to be playing with a brown and red tennis ball, but there is one major difference between them: the larger dog is a translucent white canine shape. This indicates that the dog in question is one of the ghosts featured in The Sims 4.

The post is labeled "new puppy met his big sister for the first time," which fits with the way that ghost pets often interact with living Sims. In some previous games, deceased pets would be spotted floating around the home at odd hours. However, in The Sims 4 ghost pets can be added to the household to keep them around indefinitely, just like ghost Sims. Players who are particularly fond of the aesthetics of ghost pets can even adopt a spectral pet by going to the pet cemetery on Deadgrass Isle at night and feeding the pet of their choice an Ambrosia pet treat.

As of writing, it appears that other fans were deeply affected by winterwhispering's screenshot. Several users threatened to cry as a result of seeing the two pets interact. One simply posted "His dead sister.....," suggesting that they were so moved by the scene before them that they couldn't find any more words. A second user admired the corgi puppy and began complaining about how difficult it was to adopt a corgi in The Sims 4, since the pet adoption Sim kept glitching out.

The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
