The Sims 4 Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack goes live today, and fans have been eagerly waiting for the ability to knit their Sims some nifty clothing and more. The Nifty Knitting Pack includes everything a Sim could need for knitting. From yarn baskets to rocking chairs and even an online craft store, everything in the Sims 4 pack is geared to knitting, except one item that has fans a little confused.

The Nifty Knitting Pack also includes a new music station for radios in The Sims 4. A heavy metal station becomes available with the Knitting Pack and many fans are wondering why. It is not the sheer love for intense guitar riffs shared by all knitting clubs, but actually a sly reference put in by Sims developers. The heavy metal station is a reference to an obscure competition in Finland.

The competition is called the Heavy Metal Knitting World Championships and is exactly as incredible as it sounds. Finland's competition combines knitting and heavy metal music in an intense challenge to play music while one member knits. This creative reference is causing many players to find out about the Heavy Metal Knitting World Championships and possibly becoming fans. Unfortunately, the competition will not be held this year due to COVID-19, but hopefully, it will resume in the future.

Although the heavy metal station seems like a tiny reference, it is a very fun way of creating awareness for such an entertaining event that many people do not know about. Hidden references in Sims games can be immensely entertaining, and Sims developers have been looking for a way to include the reference for some time.

Sound designer Drew Boles wrote in the Sims forum, "At first glance, a pack centered on knitting may seem like an odd choice, but when we heard about the Heavy Metal Knitting Competition last year in Finland, we knew it was, in fact, a perfect fit."

Players cannot recreate the competition by knitting and playing music, but can jam along to the heavy metal station now. The Nifty Knitting Pack may sound like it would have limited content, but there are many new features included with the Nifty Knitting pack. The Plopsy online crafting store allows Sims to buy and sell their own creations, much like the real online store Etsy, where the Sims store draws inspiration from. Knitting also adds the ability to craft unique items, so Sims will learn to make clothes, rugs, and much more.

The Sims 4 is available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
