In the world of The Sims, death is a regular occurrence, however, The Sims 4 players think there should be more content to commemorate this occasion. Currently, unless a player switches off aging in The Sims 4, death will take a sim and their loved ones might cry, but after that life goes on as if nothing happened.While The Sims 5 is already in development, Sims 4 players have still received plenty of additional content in the form of expansions. Beyond that, from time to time there are tiny free updates as well in The Sims 4 that add extra content to the game. Seeing as development is constant, players have plenty of ideas on how to improve the experience and one of the areas of the game that's still found lacking is the mechanics around death.Twitter user chz_p1zza has listed a variety of ideas on how the Sims could be improved when it comes to a sims' death. Firstly, adding a funeral home lot type, which could also be an interesting new career progression for sims. When remembering a departed sim, chz_p1zza suggested throwing a celebration of life party and social interactions as well where sims could discuss memories about their lost loved ones. There are also already existing items in the game, but they don't provide meaningful interactions. Once a sim dies in The Sims 4, however absurd the reason may be, they will get an urn or a gravestone, but the item just appears. But according to chz_p1zza's suggestion, it would be more interesting if the family could be given the ashes or attend the funeral of the dead sim.
Another comment agreed, adding that the mourning period is too long while it doesn't amount to anything other than the sim breaking out in tears from time to time and then once that span of time passes the sim goes back to acting as if nothing has ever happened. Others said this is all well and good, but perhaps these types of additions could be made optional because then a player might become all too attached to their sims and wouldn't ever let them die, even if there have been some hilarious ways to go in the history of Sims. After this wishlist was compiled chz_p1zza even tagged Dave Miotke, Sims 4 producer at EA, in the hopes that these ideas might find traction.
It's obvious there are more than just a few players who would love to see the Sims expand on the event of death and make it more meaningful. Whether these requests will be listened to, and whether they could be implemented in a smaller "Game Pack" in Sims 4 or players will have to wait until Sims 5 is a question of waiting it out.
