The house building tools in The Sims 4 allow players to create all sorts of amazing builds, from modern apartments and suburban homes to grand mansions and castles. While it’s tempting to build the biggest and craziest houses one can imagine, there’s something to be said for expertly crafted boutique designs. One Sims 4 player has proven that bigger isn’t always better, showing off their beautifully constructed cottage.

The Sims 4 was released in 2014 by EA Games and is part of arguably the most successful social simulation franchise in gaming history. Players control human characters called Sims and can shape the lives of Sims however they please. One of the biggest draws to the simulation game is its versatile building tools, which let players design and furnish their houses in great detail.

Posting to the /r/Sims4 community on Reddit, Heatherdukefanboy shared a screenshot of their Sims cottage, which was received well by the game's fans. Reddit users praised the build for its landscaping and details, giving the player's property the labels of cute and beautiful.

The house is built near a river in an idyllic location, walled off with a rustic stone fence. Rustic is certainly the theme here, as the design goes for grays and browns as well as woods and stones. Set in the Windenburg area of the game, the build keeps in style with the traditional look of the setting, opting for older looking materials and a charming style.

The exterior of the house features stony walls and a quaint arched style to the roof. There is a small veranda at the front door, surrounded by a lovely front garden. The landscaping compliments the property’s surroundings with a wild feel, and a mossy stone path leading through the back, where a secondary building can be found. Possibly a shed of some kind, it is in uniform with the main building. Aspiring builders should pay attention, as it’s these sorts of Sims building techniques that take a house from good to great.

Those wanting to see pictures of the interior are out of luck, at least for now. Heatherdukefanboy hasn’t tackled the interior decoration yet, describing the house as an unfurnished shell. However, with the exterior completed, the interior is a blank canvas for Sims wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle. Fans of the game can get a closer look at the cottage and have a crack at furnishing it themselves; the house can be found on The Sims 4 gallery, credited to Bostob.

The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
