It's unclear as to why the player traffic spiked so dramatically. The fourth entry in the core series been part of multiple sales over the past year. Between a variety of Origin sales and discounts on other platforms, there has been no shortage of opportunities to purchase The Sims 4 at a lower price than its base value. As such, increased interest could be due to various convincing deals.

Moreover, the stay-at-home orders initiated due to COVID-19 could be a contributing factor. Players may have sought to give The Sims 4 a chance during a period of increased indoors isolation. However, there could be other reasons at play as well.

Although June 18's EA Play Live 2020 event didn't announce any new Sims content, a Sims 4 Steam release was announced. Later this year, Valve's digital platform will sell The Sims 4, as well as Titanfall 2, Dead Space 3, and a host of others.

The Sims 4 is currently available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
