Each The Sims game offers something new that makes it different from its predecessor. The game had changed a lot between The Sims 3 and The Sims 4, despite the relatively short time span between the two games.

Not only does The Sims 4 have a different visual feel but it changed a lot of things about the gameplay. Some of them sat well with the fans but there are also some areas in which The Sims 4 would do well to draw inspiration from The Sims 3. Bringing in some new features would make The Sims 4 even more fun to play.

8 More Supernatural Creatures

Supernatural creatures and the extensions with them are often among the most popular parts of The Sims game. If the player compares The Sims 3 and The Sims 4, the older game comes out victorious. Simply because it offers a larger number of supernatural creatures the player can use in their gameplay.

The Sims 3 includes ghosts, faeries, werewolves, witches, vampires, and genies. The Sims 4, on the other hand, has only four supernatural creatures: witches, mermaids, vampires, and aliens. Especially the absence of werewolves seems like something that would deserve fixing, as they could fight the vampires, for example.

7 More Pets

The Sims 3 not only features a larger number of supernatural creatures but also gives the players more pets. Other than the usual cats and dogs The Sims 4 also feature, the player has the option to add even horses into the households. That makes for some challenging but fun gameplay since horses require a very different type of care than dogs or cats.

While there have been mods that add farm animals and the Cottage Living expansion to top it off, the gameplay for these new pets and the variety of them have been somewhat unsatisfactory as well.

6 Playable Pets

Other than a larger selection of pets, The Sims 3 has an even bigger advantage when it comes to everyone's favorite furry friends. Unlike in The Sims 4, the pets in the older game are playable. That makes it easier to guess what they need, whether they're happy, and it also makes it easier to teach them new skills.

In The Sims 4, it's difficult to guess how the pets are doing, whether their needs are full. At least not if the player doesn't use a specific mod that makes the pets playable as well. Not all players enjoy using mods, unfortunately, so the best course of action would be to make pets playable in both games.

5 More Character Traits

With such a large number of possible character traits in The Sims 4, it can be frustrating the player can only choose three traits from the list when creating a new Sim. Not to mention that three traits just don't seem like enough to create a truly complex personality for the new Sim.

The Sims 3 gives the player a better chance to customize their Sim's personality since each Sim can have five unique character traits in total, two more than The Sims 4.

4 More Potential Careers

One way how to liven up the gameplay, make the game more interesting, is to try a career the player hasn't played before. The Sims 3 offers a better possibility to do just that since it features more potential careers than The Sims 4.

For example, some of the careers that were available in The Sims 3 but not its successor include acrobat, alchemist, firefighter, horseman, magician, and others. With more careers in The Sims 4, it would make it possible to build a more varied world filled with Sims each of whom has a different profession.

3 A Larger World Full Of Lots

Any player who likes to spend a lot of time building their own worlds might be disappointed with the lack of free space The Sims 4 offers. Each world only has a limited number of free places. On the other hand, the worlds in The Sims 3 are more vast and as such, allow to place a larger number of new lots in each world.

The players have the option to customize each world to their liking and if they think not enough people live in the world, they can simply place few extra lots and fix that. The Sims 4 doesn't allow for this option since there simply isn't enough space in each world.

2 Riding A Car

It's only a small detail but one that makes the game more immersive. In The Sims 3, Sims can buy cars and drive them around the neighborhood. They can even build a special relationship with their car or go for driving lessons.

That made the cars feel like real cars, more so than in The Sims 4, where Sims buy cars only for them to stand in front of the houses and serve as a decoration, nothing more.

1 Color Wheel

The Sims 4 offers plenty of hairstyles as well as clothes and colors to choose from but not as much variability as The Sims 3. What's missing is the color wheel that allows the player to use many colors for their Sims' clothes and looks.

The only instance in which the color wheel appears in The Sims 4 is when creating a pet in Create-a-Sim but using it for humans (or supernatural creatures) would be even more fun than using the wheel to customize a pet's fur.

The Sims 4 was released on September 2, 2014, and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
