In move that's only surprising in that it hasn't happened earlier, Electronic Arts announced today that The Sims 3 will be making the move to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and DS this fall. Released in 2009 for the PC, The Sims 3 went on to become the most popular game of the year, has subsequently had two expansion packs released, and is sitting at an 86% rating on metacritic. Does The Sims 3 have the potential be just as successful on consoles and handhelds?

There will be three new different versions of The Sims 3 this fall. The first will be released for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and will likely be as similar to the PC version as possible. Players will be able to unlock achievements or trophies, and then connect to Facebook and share the news with their friends. The second version, for the Wii, takes place in an all new  beach town. Featuring a unique multiplayer mode, players can compete against their friends in "Life Moments", as well as several adventure quests. The final version, for the DS, allows players to design and draw their own homes, or customize virtually any object in the game. You can also sculpt your own Sim's facial features.

All in all, this sounds like more exciting Sims action. What do you think, Ranters? Are you willing to give The Sims a try on your console or handheld of choice?
