Now in its 30th season, The Simpsons has become the longest-running scripted prime time television series in the United States. During the course of its incredibly lengthy amount of time on the air, FOX's animated program has understandably looked to lots of current events in order to find inspiration for its episodes. Now, it seems as if the show has decided to turn its attention toward the burgeoning field of eSports and give it a good ribbing.

In an upcoming episode entitled "E My Sports", Bart decides to try his hand at becoming an eSports star by playing the game “Conflict of Enemies,” which appears to be The Simpsons' version of MOBA titles such as League of Legends and DOTA 2. According to a synopsis of what is to be the 17th episode of season 30, when Bart starts to excel at video game competitions, Homer becomes passionate about coaching him.

According to the eSports consultant Rod Breslau, The Simpsons writers apparently consulted with League of Legends developer Riot Games in order to create "an accurate representation of video games" in the new episode. While it remains unclear as to what kind of eSports tropes and gags will be depicted in "E My Sports", Simpsons producer Al Jean shared a tweet giving fans a quick look at a frame of animation from the episode, with Bart, Milhouse, Sophie, Nelson, and Martin all playing "Conflict of Enemies" together as a team.

For those unaware, this won't be the first time that The Simpsons has parodied contemporary video games, as the show joined in on the Pokemon GO craze several years ago to have Homer become an avid, albeit heavily distracted player of Niantic's mobile ARG. One could even argue that the video game medium has inspired some of The Simpsons' most popular gags, with Bart's being gifted "Lee Carvallo's Putting Challenge" from Marge instead of the Mortal Kombat-esque "Bonestorm" in the season 7 episode "Marge Be Not Proud" having now become meme-worthy.

All things considered, it will be interesting to see just how The Simpsons tackles eSports in the upcoming "E My Sports" episode. We won't have to wait too long to find out, though, as it airs tomorrow night.

The Simpsons' 17th episode of season 30, "E My Sports", airs on Sunday, March 17, 2019 on FOX.
