Ever since the P.T. demo hit the PlayStation store back in 2014, horror fans have been desperate for a new Silent Hill game. Sadly, since the cancellation of the much-anticipated Silent Hills from Hideo Kojima, Konami hasn't said much about the future of the series. However, that hasn't stopped developers from creating homages to this lost potential. Games such as Layers of Fear and Visage have shown that a hyper-realistic looking horror game is capable of scaring the pants off gamers. And now a new contender is about to be released for the PS5.

Evil Inside is a new horror game developed by independent studio JanduSoft and is arguably more P.T. inspired than the aforementioned games. The game itself is described as a first-person psychological horror, and the story follows Mark who, after his father is arrested for the murder of Mark's mother, attempts to contact her through a spiritual board. These types of P.T. inspired horror games tend to follow similar patterns: creepy atmospheres, dark lighting, unsettling female antagonists, cramped corridors, and mysterious terrors.

The trailer below shows what the game will look like and immediately many will get P.T. vibes. It may not have the visual fidelity of the Silent Hills teaser, or of the other iterations that have come about since, but it certainly has the style and even level design that fans will be familiar with. It's becoming somewhat more common for horror developers to recapture what was lost when P.T. was deleted from stores. Recently, Bloober Team admitted the design of the wife from Layers of Fear was inspired by Hideo Kojima's Lisa.

The 2018 trailer above takes the viewer on a brief walkthrough of the locales that Evil Inside will feature. It has all the hallmarks of what makes a successful horror game these days, but hopefully it will bring its own unique take on the genre and stack up along with the best of them. After Silent Hills was cancelled, and then the subsequent Allison Road was also dropped (but then brought back), there's only so much heartbreak fans can take.

With recent news that the Silent Hill composer, Akira Yamaoka, has been teasing a new announcement this summer, all fans can think about is a new game in the terrifyingly classic series. However, until then, games such as Evil Inside will be able to tide horror fanatics over. That's not to say this will be a stop-gap. It's looking like it could be a strong addition to horror gaming, but only time will tell whether it will be just as successful, and as scary, as the others.

Evil Inside is coming to PS5 March 25th.
