It's been a couple of rough months for Konami fans. There has been a good amount of turmoil within the company lately as famed Metal Gear developer, Hideo Kojima, has apparently been fired, which led to his name being removed from other game projects and media branding – including his studio name in Los Angeles. With the Metal Gear franchise being scrubbed clean of the Kojima name, there was still a sense of hope that Kojima's other title in development, Silent Hills, would be left alone.

Fans were unsurprisingly crushed to hear that wouldn't be the case as the Silent Hills project between director Guillermo del Toro and developer Hideo Kojima, was canceled earlier this week by parent company Konami. Still, fans are hoping they have one more trick up their sleeves to save the title.

Yauheni Zinkevich, a fan from Germany, has taken to change.org and started a petition to convince Del Toro and Kojima to continue development on the recently canceled Silent Hills project. In the post, Kickstarter is specifically mentioned as a way to help crowd fund the title if lack of money was a concern. Interestingly enough, the fan petition specifically targets Kojima Productions and not Konami, the latter of which actually owns the franchise.

The request reads:

"Dear Hideo and Guillermo,

hearing the cancellation of one of the most anticipated horror games is about the most heartbreaking thing horror fans had to swallow this year.

Since the first sight of the P.T Demo it was instant love, and it burned into the minds of everyone that this had to release at some point.

Although the reasons are not yet announced I am begging you along with countless others: Please continue the Development on Silent Hills, if the issue is money related, we would love to see a Crowdfunding campaign like Kickstarter to ensure you are getting all the financial help there is! We´d love to see it happen at some point and want to thank you for all the great games you have released so far!"

It seems the demand for Silent Hills remains strong as the petition already has an impressive 8,565 signatures as it continues to climb towards 10,000. It'll be interesting to see if there is any reaction from Kojima or Konami. Considering Kojima has been fairly quiet these past few months, it seems unlikely.

The Silent Hills cancelation definitely came as a surprise especially when considering that the demo version known as P.T. that released at E3 last year became wildly popular. P.T. was featured heavily on social media sites, YouTube, and was a popular game for Twitch streamers to cover as well. Once people discovered the demo was a big tease for a new Silent Hill game though, it's popularity rose even more. For a franchise that is in need of a positive boost, Silent Hills seemed like a sure thing.

Sadly, as the public is well aware now, it wasn't meant to be. With Konami canceling the highly anticipated game, news also broke that the company was preparing to remove the demo entirely from the PlayStation Network. With the demo now removed from the online marketplace, people have taken to eBay to sell PlayStation 4 consoles with the demo preloaded. As expected, the cost of these "special" consoles are already hitting outrageous prices with the majority well over $1000.

With Silent Hills as we knew it now gone, do you think Konami will bring the franchise back? Let us know below.
