Silent Hill: Townfall is reportedly being built with Unreal Engine 5. There has been much speculation on what type of game the new Silent Hill is going to be, but recent details on how the game is being developed may provide further insight.

Silent Hill: Townfall hides secrets in its trailer that fans have since been able to decode, but one thing that remains a mystery is what kind of game Silent Hill: Townfall will be regarding its story and gameplay. It has been speculated that the game is supposed to be an origin story for Silent Hill, and with recent information on what engine the game will be developed with, players have more pieces to the Townfall puzzle.

The announcement of Silent Hill: Townfall revealed that No Code was the studio behind it, and recent information states that the studio is looking for programming specialists to work on the game. It has also been reported that No Code will be abandoning Unity, which it used for Stories Untold and Observation, and instead will be using Unreal Engine 5 to develop this new Silent Hill title.The announcement further stated that the specialists will not be programming with any specific graphic style in mind, but to program realistic characters and environments, and that multi-platform testing will also be conducted.

Silent Hill: Townfall is mysterious so far, as there is no other available information regarding a release date or even target platforms. The only insight so far that players have to work with is this recent listing from No Code that suggests what stage of development the game could be in. It is suspected that the game could be cross-platform, that it will also be coming to PC, and confirmed that it is using Unreal Engine 5, which may reveal that Townfall could be another AAA title standing toe to toe with its horror siblings, the Silent Hill 2 remake and Silent Hill F.

All the next iterations of Silent Hill look unique in their own right, such as Silent Hill F’s flower-based creatures, the re-imagining of one of the best survival horror games of all time in the Silent Hill 2 remake, the Black Mirror-esque vision for Silent Hill: Ascension, and the secretive nature of Silent Hill: Townfall. Silent Hill is officially back and players have much to look forward to as more news continues to develop regarding each of the four games in active development.
