Konami's Silent Hill franchise has been mostly dormant ever since the controversial cancellation of Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills project. Silent Hill has popped back up occasionally over the years, with it being used as a theme for a pachinko machine and having some of its most iconic characters added to the roster of the asymmetrical multiplayer horror game Dead by Daylight. However, rumors have persisted that Silent Hill is gearing up for a big comeback, potentially as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.

Rumors have persisted for quite some time that Silent Hill is coming back on PS5. Various insiders have offered their opinions on what the Silent Hill PS5 game will entail. Some have said that the game will actually be a remake of the original Silent Hill. Others have said that it will be a completely original entry in the series, developed as a joint collaboration between Konami and Sony. Others still have suggested that it's a combination of the two rumors, with the game being a remake developed by Konami and Sony.

No new Silent Hill project has been announced at the time of this writing, but where there's smoke, there's fire. The more outlandish claims like Hideo Kojima possibly making a Silent Hill game are hard to believe, but rumors like The Medium developer Bloober Team making a Silent Hill game are easier to believe. Based on the latest information, it seems that there may be more than one new Silent Hill game in development, and so it will be interesting to see what is ultimately announced.

The latest insider to talk about the rumored Silent Hill PS5 game is Jeff Grubb, who said that there is a "really strong chance" that the game is a PS5 exclusive, as rumored. Silent Hill being a PS5 exclusive has been one of the most consistent rumors about the game since the leaks started, and so it would be surprising if the game is announced as a multi-platform or cross-gen title at this stage.

The biggest Silent Hill leak occurred just recently when alleged photos of the project leaked online. The Silent Hill leaked images where shared by AestheticGamer, a Twitter user who is known for their inside information on survival-horror franchises, particularly Resident Evil. The images were taken down through a DMCA notice, in turn lending them credibility and suggesting that the images are legitimate.

As it stands, no new Silent Hill PS5 project has actually been announced, and so it's best if fans keep their expectations in check for now. Rumors are swirling about a possible PlayStation State of Play happening in the relatively near future, though, so maybe fans will get answers sooner rather than later.

Silent Hill is rumored to be in development.
