Even though the worlds of Persona 4 and Silent Hill haven't received any new expansions in recent history, that doesn't mean that fans are over the legendary titles. In fact, Japanese Twitter users took to the site today to excitedly discuss these favorites.

Persona 4 and Silent Hill don't have a great deal in common, as one is an RPG dealing with high school students harnessing supernatural powers to track down a serial killer, while the other takes various characters through the nightmareish hellscape that is the town of Silent Hill itself. However, there is one commonality between the two, and that's what got fans excited.

As the sun rose over Japan today, a quick glance outside in the Kanto region of the country revealed that the area was completely blanketed in a thick fog. While not unheard of, the density and scope of the fog was quite impressive, and Japanese citizens were warned to be particularly cautious while driving. It's this fog that got Persona 4 and Silent Hill fans giddy, as it reminded fans of both series of their favorite moments.

Those who have played these games likely know that the fog plays a big role in both. Persona 4's fog is usually present in the Midnight Channel, where the presence or absence of fog determines how Shadows react to the playable characters and others. The game's OST even includes a track simply titled 'The Fog.'

Silent Hill, on the other hand, with the exception of a few outlying later releases, almost always involves fog. Originally, the fog was utilized to help hide the PlayStation 1's graphical shortcomings, but it ultimately became a tradition in the series, reappearing in subsequent games. The fog is so important to Silent Hill players that PC gamers have tirelessly worked at modifying Silent Hill 2's fog on the PC in order for it to look as good as its console PS2 counterpart.

As players of both of these games have likely spent dozens or even hundreds of hours wandering through the mists, seeing the world draped in fog upon waking up must have been quite exciting and a pleasant reminder of good times with video games. Sadly, the fans of the Silent Hill series are still awaiting any kind of news regarding a Silent Hill reboot or sequel, which has been rumored, but with nothing concrete revealed by Konami. While Persona 4 and Silent Hill may be stagnant for now, the mist rolling in can always remind players of the restless dreams of adjusting their glasses and wandering through the fog.
