Konami, the studio behind the cult-classic game franchise Silent Hill confirms that it has partnered with developer Bloober Team for a secret project. Fans are coming up with theories to try and prove that Silent Hill is coming back under the direction of the new studio.

Some speculation on new Silent Hill content began in July 2020 when an official Silent Hill Twitter account came into being, with most of the content being shared including fan art and other franchise-related goodies. Following this speculation came rumors that Konami and SIE Japan Studio were working together, and those rumors have begun again following the announcement of Konami's Bloober Team partnership.

Konami's Recent History with Silent Hill

Konami has tried to dash rumors in posts on the Silent Hill Twitter account, apologizing to fans for getting their hopes up about any new content coming from the franchise. This was an especially big disappointment for fans following the cancellation of Silent Hills in 2015. The abandoned project shared between Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro left fans of the franchise wondering if Konami will ever revisit the series.

Fans began speculating that Silent Hill games are on the way since Konami announced its partnership with Bloober Team, the studio behind Xbox Series X/S-exclusive horror game The MediumNeither developer has mentioned the franchise when talking about their project, yet CEO Piotr Babieno has previously said in an interview that it was working on an IP in the horror genre "with a very famous publisher," now seemingly confirmed to be Konami.

Why This Might be a Very Good Thing

This is good news for a few reasons, the first being that Konami may be beginning to change directions in terms of outsourcing its franchises. Bloober Team's horror game The Medium has been praised for its visuals, giving hope for future Silent Hill entries in terms of graphical fidelity. If Bloober Team is allegedly working on two games, it might be a long wait for any actual content. However, the longer studios take on their games, the higher the quality in most cases.

Further speculation and digging from fans have revealed that original Silent Hill developers might be involved in the making these new games. This is just a rumor, but signs point to it being true given Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka commented about doing a new project with Bloober Team, on top of being the lead composer for their most recent title.

Why This Might be a Very Bad Thing

Konami, as previously mentioned, has a rocky relationship with its fans due to cancelling Silent Hills. If the rumors are true and Bloober Team is working on multiple Silent Hill games, this could mean it might be a very rushed process. If more than two games are in the works, it could mean the studio plans to churn out Silent Hill, content which would likely hinder the quality of the final product.

It is still completely unknown what the actual project Konami and Bloober Team partnered up to create. Though there are comments from Babieno saying fans will be excited once the announcement is made, it does not guarantee that there are any Silent Hill games in the work - it could be a totally new IP. Whichever way fans decide to look at it, they are probably waiting with bated breath to know what has been going on behind closed doors.
