Love them or hate them, remakes are here to stay for the duration. With Resident Evil 4 Remake coming next year and gameplay footage having just been shown off, the opportunity to reimagine beloved classics in this modern gaming era is something that a lot of fans and studios are getting a kick out of. One other horror series that has been on everyone's lips for a long while is Silent Hill. There's been no official word on whether a new game in the dormant franchise is in the works, but it seems as though a reboot may be happening.

That's according to director Christophe Gans, who worked on the 2006 Silent Hill film adaptation. In an interview with Jeux Actu, which has been kindly translated by Gamingsyn and posted on Resetera, he says Konami is interested in relaunching Silent Hill. In the interview, Gans says that the franchise will be making a comeback and could tie into the next movie adaptation that he's currently working on. No further details have been given about the possible relaunch, but it seems that Gans is certain that the horror series will be coming back.

Apparently, Konami has been given the push to bring the Silent Hill franchise back, thanks in part to the success of the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. It makes sense that the studio would want to reboot Silent Hill, not only because of how successful the RE games continue to be, but also due to how long rumors about a new entry have been around. There is still no official word from Konami itself, but the interview with Gans will no doubt give a lot of fans some new hope.

It was originally thought that Bloober Team would be doing a remake of Silent Hill 2. However, since then, the developer has announced a continuation of its Layers of Fear games, which has likely made some more dismissive about the speculated remake. Having said that, it's not too unusual for studios to work on more than one project at a time, so some may not be giving up hope just yet.

In any case, it sounds as though Silent Hill is possibly coming back in the form of a relaunch. Fans have been burned in the past by leaks and rumors that have led nowhere, so it wouldn't be too surprising if fans were to hold their judgment for now. In the meantime, the script for the new Silent Hill film adaptation was completed recently by Gans, with the film due out next year, so there's at least that to look forward to.
