Major Nelson of Microsoft announces three more games for the list of Xbox 360 titles compatible with Xbox One, including Silent Hill: Downpour and Puzzle Quest.

Ever since Xbox One backward compatibility with Xbox 360 games was announced a couple of years back, Microsoft has made an effort to bring as many 360 games to its new system as possible. There are nearly 300 Xbox 360 titles now playable on Xbox One, and Microsoft just added three more, including one game that should be a solid choice for gamers looking to play something spooky this Halloween.

Silent Hill: Downpour is now playable on Xbox One. The game tells the story of Murphy Pendleton, whose prison transport vehicle happens to wreck in the twisted town of Silent Hill. Like other games in the series, players explore the town's "real" form, as well as its alternate dimension, which is a great deal more dangerous. Silent Hill: Downpour plays like a classic Silent Hill game for the most part, but has some unique tricks up its sleeve as well, including a dynamic weather system and side quests.

In our own Silent Hill: Downpour review, we called it "haunting and engrossing," but noted that it does have some technical issues that hold it back from reaching its true potential. However, some Xbox 360 games run better on Xbox One, so there's a chance that people playing Downpour on Microsoft's current-gen console will run into less framerate problems.

Silent Hill: Downpour isn't the only game that Microsoft recently added to the backward compatibility list. It's joined by Puzzle Quest, which had strong reviews at the time of its original release, as well as the video game parody Eat Lead: The Return of Matt HazardEat Lead is a third-person shooter that satirizes various video game cliches, and also takes aim at specific games, including Final Fantasy and Duke Nukem. It wasn't exactly a critical darling, but many critics praised its humor, so it may be worth checking out for Xbox One owners looking for a good laugh.

At the rate Microsoft has been adding games to the backward compatibility list, Xbox One gamers may be able to expect more games to join Silent Hill: DownpourPuzzle Quest, and Eat Lead before the month is out. Since it's Halloween season, hopefully future games added to the service this month include more Xbox 360 horror titles, like the Silent Hill HD Collection, for example.

Whatever Microsoft decides to add to the backward compatibility lineup next, it's nice to see the feature supported so consistently and aggressively. Microsoft has managed to secure backward compatibility for a number of big Xbox 360 games in recent months, including Call of Duty: World at War and Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption, but there's still many high profile 360 games that have yet to hit the service. With Microsoft's track record as of late, some more of the 360's biggest games should come to Xbox One sooner rather than later.
