This past decade has seen video game publisher Konami make major changes. There once was a time when Konami was one of the most-respected publishers in the industry, producing critically-acclaimed and classic games like Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, and Silent Hill, but it turned its attention away from traditional gaming to pursue other ventures. These changes saw Konami cancel Silent Hills, a Silent Hill project that was being made by Hideo Kojima, and the survival-horror franchise has been dormant ever since.

There hasn't been a proper new Silent Hill game in a decade, but it looks like that may be changing sooner rather than later. Leaks and rumors from reputable sources suggest that Konami has multiple Silent Hill projects in development at various studios. According to VGC, one project is a brand-new Silent Hill game being made by a Japanese studio, while another is a narrative-driven adventure game in the vein of Telltale's projects, which may be in the works at Annapurna Interactive. The third rumored project, however, is perhaps the most exciting of them all.

Assuming the rumors and leaks are true, Konami is apparently producing a remake of Silent Hill 2. Fans first caught wind of this potential project when leaker NateTheHate posted about it on Twitter. According to NateTheHate, the Silent Hill 2 remake is in development at Bloober Team, the studio behind games like Layers of Fear and The Medium, and it will be a proper remake, not a simple remaster.

If NateTheHate's information is accurate, the Silent Hill 2 remake will be quite ambitious. It will apparently include "reworked puzzles," along with "new endings." Notably, it's also believed to be a timed PlayStation exclusive, which goes along with previous rumors of a Silent Hill PS5 exclusive game being in development.

If the Silent Hill 2 remake is real, hopefully fans get a look at it soon. There are those who are skeptical about Bloober Team being able to do the game justice because of the studio's focus on first-person horror games, but The Medium played very similarly to a classic Silent Hill-style title, and so it will be interesting to see what it's able to pull off when given the opportunity to remake such a classic in the genre.

There's also the fact that Konami had not kept the source code for the original Silent Hill 2, which made it especially difficult for the Silent Hill HD Collection to live up to fans' standards. If this remake is real, it will give horror fans the chance to properly relive the horror classic on modern consoles.

A Silent Hill 2 remake is rumored to be in development.
