Konami has largely moved away from AAA game production, and as a result, its biggest franchises have been mostly dormant for years. This includes the popular survival-horror franchise Silent Hill, which hasn't had a proper new entry since 2012, discounting the playable teaser for Silent Hills that released in 2014 and has since been pulled from the PlayStation Store. However, it seems that Silent Hill fans will soon have a lot to be excited about, as reports indicate that a multiple Silent Hill projects are in active development.

According to reports by VGC and insiders Jeff Grubb and NateTheHate, Konami has multiple Silent Hill projects in development. This apparently includes a full-blown Silent Hill 2 remake with reworked puzzles, endings, and more that's said to be in development by Bloober Team, the studio known for its work on the Layers of Fear games as well as The Medium, the latter of which was heavily inspired by Silent Hill. According to the reports, the Silent Hill 2 remake may be a timed-PlayStation exclusive, which matches with previous rumors that a Silent Hill PS5 exclusive game is in the works.

It's been previously rumored that there are multiple Silent Hill games in development, and the report by VGC lends more credibility to those claims. According to VGC's sources, an episodic take on Silent Hill is also in development, though it's unclear who exactly is working on the project. Apparently, Dark Pictures studio Supermassive Games was potentially working on it at one point, but the latest news is that Annapurna Interactive may be involved. Alternatively, it could be a different studio entirely. It sounds like this project would be something in the vein of narrative-driven, episodic adventure games ala The Dark Pictures or Telltale's various titles, so it will be interesting to see what comes of it. The VGC report also mentions that, according to its sources, a brand-new entry in the Silent Hill franchise is in development at a Japanese studio, though details remain scarce on that front.

All of this comes after Silent Hill images leaked online. They were pulled via DMCA, suggesting that the images are legitimate and representative of a future Silent Hill project. VGC believes that these images aren't from one of the aforementioned Silent Hill games, but rather a new "PT-style teaser game" that will be released for free. Of course, fans should take this information with a grain of salt for now and wait for an official confirmation before getting too excited. But with VGC and multiple insiders reporting on it, it does seem like a relatively safe bet that more Silent Hill is finally on the way.

The only question that remains is when exactly fans will get to see these games for themselves. The VGC report concludes by claiming that Konami planned on unveiling these projects at E3 2021, something also mentioned by Jeff Grubb, and so it stands to reason that the big reveal is just a matter of time. E3 2022 is canceled, but there are still big summer gaming events to look forward to where Silent Hill could make an appearance, like Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest. Keighley has thrown shade at Konami in the past over the company's treatment of Hideo Kojima, though, so it's unclear if those bridges could be mended for Summer Game Fest.
