Silent Hill is once again a topic of frequent discussion in the video game industry, despite no games being announced. Rumor and speculation have driven the fandom for Silent Hill into a fervor, and Konami's hints of an upcoming announcement haven't helped the matter. Expect things to only get more unruly going forward, though, because a new leak appears to have revealed details about the oft-rumored Bloober Team Silent Hill 2 reboot project.

The leak, which has an unclear origin, features what appears to be a trio of three low-resolution Silent Hill 2 reboot screenshots. The screenshots all feature a third-person view of protagonist James Sunderland. In the first, he's standing in a room looking toward a messy desk and window. In the second, he's in a dark hallway lined with windows that provide a golden ambiance. The third screenshot shows a familiar Silent Hill 2 foe, as a nurse walks out from around a corner.

According to industry insiders, these are unfortunately not screenshots from an actively-in-development project. Rather, they're demo screenshots created for what's described as an internal pitch from Bloober Team. They're a proof of concept showing what a potential Bloober Team Silent Hill 2 reboot might look like in motion. That project has been reported to now be in development, of course, though it has not been officially confirmed or announced.

Even as a proof of concept, the low-resolution images provide a very healthy idea of what a modern Silent Hill 2 would look like. The visual quality is incomparable to the original project, which is understandable considering it was made for the PlayStation 2 generation of consoles. These screenshots specifically seem focused on showcasing lighting technology in the reboot. Ambient lighting from windows, the player's flashlight, and shadowing all stand out.

There are going to be negative responses to these leaked Silent Hill 2 proof of concept images, too. Silent Hill 2 is a beloved horror game, perhaps one of the genre's most beloved games. Some would prefer it not be remade, and others yet have a very specific idea of what it should look like. Even those who are excited about a Silent Hill 2 remake will have very high expectations of Bloober Team.

It's been a very long time since the last Silent Hill game release, outside of the now-canceled Silent Hills demo P.T. But it looks increasingly like a new Silent Hill game announcement is coming up soon.

A Silent Hill 2 reboot is rumored to be in development.
