Development of the Silent Hill 2 remake is said to be "close" to finishing. Despite Silent Hill 2's official announcement in late 2022, a release date for the highly-anticipated survivor horror game remake has yet to be officially announced. Rather than keep fans in the dark regarding Silent Hill 2's development, Bloober appears to have decided to let fans know the game's current status without giving away any official release date info.

2023 has been the year of survival horror game remakes. The year began with the release of Electronic Arts' remake of Dead Space, which was received with resounding positivity. As March comes to an end, Capcom is preparing for the release of Resident Evil 4's remake. Between Dead Space and Resident Evil 4, two of the best survival horror games ever released have made a return. Perhaps Bloober Team can add a third game to that list.

Speaking with PAP Business, Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno explained that Silent Hill 2 development is further ahead than fans likely expected. Babieno says that Silent Hill 2 "is technically ready," and while that doesn't mean that the game is finished, it does mean that Bloober Team is "close" to wrapping things up. There's still work to be done, but it sounds like there's more to the situation than simply finishing the game.

Babieno goes on to point to its "partners" for concerns regarding Silent Hill 2's release plans. He mentions that when the title will debut and how its promotion will be handled is in the publisher's hands, not Bloober's. The implication is that Bloober might like to have a release date out already, with excitement building for the game's release. That decision is up to publisher Konami and its advertising partners, which likely include PlayStation.

It's important to remember that Komani ended all plans for AAA game development around 2015. Franchises like Silent Hill have been left idle since. Konami is trying something new now, licensing its big properties to third parties. Marketing titles like the Silent Hill 2 remake, as well as the many other Silent Hill games currently in development, could be something Konami needs to rediscover its talent for.

If Silent Hill 2 is genuinely nearing completion, it's just a matter of time before Konami shares more information about the game's release plans. Maybe this summer's PlayStation event, its E3 alternative, will be the best opportunity for a reveal. Alternatively, Konami could wait until later this year. Silent Hill 2 fans will likely be hoping for an announcement sooner, rather than later. Bloober Team's comments will lead to the hope that Silent Hill 2 will launch in 2023, but that remains to be seen.

Silent Hill 2 is in development for PC and PS5.
