Fortnite Chapter 2 has been a massive hit, and players have been enjoying all the new features and improvements that came with the latest chapter of the game. On top of all that, Epic Games has been busy introducing new crossover events and other fun activities to keep the player base engaged. The Winterfest event got wrapped up recently, but Epic Games is not one to wait; instead, they just released the latest v11.40 patch update for the game which brings some changes to the battle royale. The most significant addition was the new feature known as Sidegrading.

What is Sidegrading in Fortnite

Sidegrading is the latest feature that allows players to transform one of their weapons to another one of the same rarity. It’s like upgrading, but instead of getting a weapon with a higher rarity, players only get access to weapons of the same rarity as the weapon they sidegrade. However, this only costs a fraction of what upgrading would cost, so sidegrading definitely has its own appeal. The recent reveal on Fortnite’s official Twitter showed off an assault rifle being sidegraded into a heavy assault rifle, so it’s safe to assume the Heavy Assault Rifles are coming out of the vault.

Sidegrading can provide a competitive advantage in the game as players will be able to turn their mediocre weapons into their most powerful versions quickly; however, it’s still unclear as to how many weapons can be sidegraded in Fortnite. The new Fortnite update has also added a new Weapon Upgrade Bench that allows players to upgrade or sidgrade their weapons for a cost. All players have to do is head over to the bench with a compatible weapon and sidegrade it without any issues. At the moment, there are no details regarding which weapons can or can not be sidegraded, but it’s confirmed that Standard Assualt Rifles can be sidegraded into Heavy Assualt Rifles, at least. Those who want to get their hands on a Heavy Assualt Rifle should know that sidegrading costs 20 Metal, 20 Stone, and 20 Wood. So, go out there and sidegrade those nerf guns into some serious firepower in the game.

Fortnite is available for the PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Android, and iOS.
