Just over a week after Mixer streamer and influencer Shroud declared that Call of Duty: Warzone was better than Apex Legends, the ex-pro gamer has apparently changed his mind. Shroud's now proclaiming that Call of Duty: Warzone is too "casual" and that he may, in fact, be done with the game. Call of Duty: Warzone launched just under three weeks ago on March 10, but apparently even that much was too much for Shroud.
To be fair to Call of Duty: Warzone, Shroud isn't saying that the game is bad or that it isn't fun. Quite the contrary, actually. Shroud's issue stems from a perceived skill cap in Call of Duty: Warzone that isn't there in Apex Legends. Shroud came to the realization after returning to Apex Legends after some time exclusively playing Call of Duty: Warzone and noticing that his performance had suffered. Shroud sees playing Call of Duty: Warzone as harming his overall skill.
"I'm just glad I noticed it early," says Shroud after several games of Apex Legends. "No offense to CoD, it's a fantastic game, but I now understand why [Skadoodle] doesn't want to play." Shroud is referring to another ex-pro gamer gone fulltime streamer who also strictly plays first-person shooters. His criticism of Call of Duty: Warzone doesn't stop there, though. "It's too **** casual and it'll **** you up, man." Shroud caps off his rant saying that anyone trying to maintain being a "competitive" player can't just play Call of Duty: Warzone.
If Shroud's to be believed, he's going to follow his own advice. He's going to go back to playing Apex Legends and perhaps PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. He says explicitly, "I'm done playing CoD, seriously. After seeing my performance in this game, I am done." He walks it back a little from there, saying that if he does play Call of Duty: Warzone, it'll be "very minimal" and only an hour of his daily stream.
Shroud's thoughts are the conclusion of about a week of criticism for Call of Duty: Warzone, having previously said that he thinks Call of Duty: Warzone has a limited lifespan because its gameplay is too similar to other Call of Duty games.
Ultimately, Shroud's comments won't come as a surprise to anyone who is a fan. Shroud has a habit of falling quickly in love with games, lauding them, and then growing bored within 2-3 weeks. While his criticisms aren't necessarily wrong, they definitely are to taken with a grain of salt considering Shroud tends to get bored and subsequently overly critical with everything he plays.
